Monkeybiz helps bring the festive cheer to thousands of V&A Waterfront visitors with the Joy from Africa to the World exhibition.
The Joy from Africa to the World festive exhibition at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town is a cherished celebration of African craftsmanship, creativity, and community. This year marks the fifth year of our collaboration with them, which began in 2019, and each year, the exhibition grows in detail and grandeur, showcasing even more of the vibrant, joyful spirit of Africa.
At the heart of this exhibition is the concept of “Joy from Africa,” an idea that not only celebrates the festive season but also uplifts African artistry and heritage. Monkeybiz, known for our unique hand-beaded creations, has played an integral role in this collaboration. The V&A Waterfront has embraced the rich tradition of beadwork, adding more décor and intricate details to the exhibition year by year, creating a visually stunning experience for visitors.
What started in 2019 as a festive installation has evolved into something much more—each year sees new additions, from intricate beaded ornaments to large-scale installations that celebrate African stories, colors, and craftsmanship. The beauty of this evolving collaboration is that it continues to deepen its focus on supporting local artisans and spreading joy through art.
As we reflect on this five-year journey, we are grateful for how this collaboration has grown, not just in scale but in impact. Through Joy from Africa to the World, we celebrate not only the festive season but also the importance of sustainability, creativity, and cultural heritage in shaping a brighter future for African artisans. It’s a true honor to continue bringing joy and creativity to the V&A Waterfront and to the world.
